Thirteen centuries of Hani engineering turned into thousands of mirrors that hold the whole sky
Duoyishu — Mist lifts off the flooded paddies as the sun colours the water — the signature frame.
Laohuzui — Tiger Mouth: terrace lines curving into shadow with crimson water in the last light.
Qingkou village — Mushroom-roof houses and terrace edges, minutes after the viewpoints empty.
Between late November and March the terraces are flooded, and the mountain becomes a sheet of broken mirror — the single most photographic surface in Yunnan.
We base inside the terrace area so the first shoot of the day starts in the dark. Duoyishu takes the sunrise, Bada and Laohuzui take the sunset, and the Hani villages in between give the human scale that pure landscape misses. Add Dongchuan's red earth and Jade Dragon's alpenglow and one province covers three completely different colour palettes.

Timings follow the light. Every day is adjusted to the season and the weather.
