Bamboo poles, floating net-houses and a tide that redraws the whole picture twice a day
Beiqi — Low sun rakes across the wet flats; the poles throw long repeating shadows.
Dongbi — Silhouetted rafts and net frames against a burning, mirror-flat bay.
Yantian — Bamboo poles and floating houses dissolve into a cool, minimal abstraction.
Xiapu is not really a landscape — it is a working farm. Every pole, net and raft in the frame is somebody's livelihood.
The picture changes with the tide, the seaweed harvest and the hour, so we build the day around tide charts rather than a fixed itinerary. We hire local fisherwomen to work the flats for us at the right light, and we move between Beiqi, Dongbi, Yantian and the small bays depending on where the water will be when the sun is.
Seaweed harvest begins; the busiest and most colourful season.
Hot, humid, typhoon drama — high-risk, high-reward skies.
Stable light, second harvest, the best overall window.
Cold, clear, empty — the cleanest minimal frames.
Repeating verticals in raking low sun.
Floating dwellings mirrored in still water.
Seaweed work at the exact tide.
Timings follow the light. Every day is adjusted to the season and the weather.
